There are four types of custom metadata: taxonomy metadata, label metadata, date metadata, and text metadata. You configure these metadata types in the CCMS and add them to both DITA and binary files.

The four custom metadata types differ in what kind of value they store, whether it's a category from a predefined list, an open-ended tag, a date, or free text, and in how much control you have over what values are allowed.

Taxonomy metadata

Taxonomy metadata lets you create controlled sets of metadata values to categorize content in Heretto CCMS so authors can filter and find it by meaningful, predefined attributes like audience, product, or complexity level.

Label metadata

Label metadata lets you create open-ended metadata values on the fly to tag content in Heretto CCMS when you can't define all possible values upfront.

Date metadata

Date metadata lets you tag content in Heretto CCMS with date values so authors can filter and find content by meaningful dates, like review deadlines or publication dates.

Text metadata

Text metadata lets you tag content in Heretto CCMS with a free-text value, like an internal note or reference number. This makes it well suited for metadata that doesn't fit into predefined categories or structured formats.
