Outputclass Attributes for PDF Generator

The outputclass attribute is used for styling during output processing. Learn how to add attribute values to maps and topics to control PDF output.

Heretto PDF Generator Gray and Color templates use predefined outputclass attributes for styling. Setting a predefined outputclass attribute on an element modifies the styling of that element in the output without the need of modifying the CCS in a publishing scenario.

All predefined outputclass attributes are documented in the module they apply to. For example, Layout and DITA modules.

Add Attribute Values to Maps and Map Elements

You can add attribute values to root map elements and elements inside a map in the Content Editor. Attributes added to a parent element carry over to its children. In this procedure, we focus on adding outputclass attribute values to map elements for PDF Generator output styling. However, you can follow it to add values to any attributes in a map.

  1. In the Content Library, double-click a map to open it in the Content Editor.
  2. In the map tree pane on the left, right-click a map element you want edit and select Edit element properties .
    Tip:

    If you prefer working in the Source Editor, right-click the map element and select Edit element XML.

  3. In the outputclass field, add a value.

    To add multiple values to one attribute, separate them with a space.

    Note:

    You can find all predefined outputclass attributes used by Gray and Color templates in the modules they apply to. For example, Layout Modules or DITA Modules.

    Your changes are saved automatically. Click away to close the Edit Properties window.

The outputclass attribute value is added to the map. The properties of the value added to a parent element carry over to its children. When publishing with a publishing scenario that uses the value, the properties of the value are applied to output.

Add Attribute Values to Topics and Topic Elements

You can add attribute values to root topic elements and elements inside a topic in the Content Editor. In this procedure, we focus on adding outputclass attribute values to topic elements for PDF Generator output styling. However, you can follow it to add values to any attributes in a topic.
  1. In the Content Library, double-click a topic.
  2. Open the Attributes tab.

  3. In the Content Editor, place your cursor in the element that you want to edit the attributes for.

    This ensures that the Attributes tab changes the context to the desired element.

  4. In the Attributes tab, go to the outputclass field and add a value.

    To add multiple values to one attribute, separate them with a space.
