DITA Metadata Configurations

Configure Drop-downs for DITA Attributes

You can configure predefined lists of DITA attribute values and use them as drop-downs (also known as taxonomy driven-attributes). For example, you can add a drop-down list with product values like product A, product B, to the product DITA attribute to help authors set the product attribute quickly and correctly.

Note:

Configuring predefined lists of attribute values requires Heretto support. For details, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM).

Create a taxonomy with attribute values

  1. In the top-left corner, click the Main Menu and go to Taxonomy.
  2. Click New Taxonomy.
  3. Enter a label for the taxonomy.

The Label field is the name of the taxonomy that is not visible to users outside of this interface. The Name field is used by the CCMS as a unique identifier and is populated automatically. At this point, you can still modify the value in the Name field. Once you save your changes, you can still modify the label but not the name.

  4. Click Save to create the new taxonomy.
  5. Click the existing term Unnamed 1 and, in the Label field, give it a meaningful name.

Once configured, the name you give a taxonomy term in the Label field is visible to other users. The Name field is not editable for existing taxonomy terms.

  6. Click Save.
  7. Right-click the renamed term and do any of the following:
    • To create a new, top-level term, select Create Term Below.

    • To create a child term under the existing term, select Create Narrower Term.

  8. Give the new term a meaningful name. Click Save.
  9. Keep adding new terms as needed.
  10. Once you are satisfied, click Save all changes.

Ask the Heretto team to complete the configuration

  1. Contact your CSM and request the completion of the configuration.
Verify that the attribute values are present in the Content Editor by opening the Attributes tab and clicking the attribute values were configured for. If they are configured, a list with the values opens.
