File History

Heretto CCMS maintains audit history for each file in the Content Library. Each time a file is closed, Heretto CCMS automatically creates a revision that's saved as part of the file history. You also have the option to commit and save a file revision manually. You can view file history in the History tab in the Resource Drawer .

Heretto CCMS maintains history for all file types. You can restore any previous revision of a file. Restoring a previous revision does not affect any revisions created since that revision.

At Heretto, we use file history to revert major changes.

Compare File Revisions

You compare the revisions (or versions) of a file to view changes made over time. You can compare revisions of DITA topics in the Render view of the History tab.

The comparison highlights text indicating content that was removed or added. Removed content is highlighted in red and struck through. Added content is highlighted in green and underlined.
Note:

The Compare with selected option is not supported in the XML view or for text and binary files, which is the expected behavior.

  1. In the Content Library, click a file and in the right pane, select History.
  2. Select the revision you want to compare with.
For example, if you want to compare a previous revision to the current version, select Current.
  3. To compare the selected revision with another revision, click Compare with selected for that revision.

All new items added between the revisions are marked green while removed items are crossed out and marked red.

Restore a File Revision

Restore a file to a previous revision (or version), creating a new revision in the file history. You can restore a revision for any file for which history is maintained (DITA XML, text, and binary files). Restoring a previous revision does not affect any revisions created since that revision.

  1. In the Content Library, click a file and in the right pane, select History.
  2. Select the revision you want to restore.
  3. Click Restore.
  4. Click OK.

The Edit the commit details dialog appears.

  5. Optional: Change the status of the file.

Optionally, you can enter a comment for the restore operation.

  6. Click Save.
The revision is restored and becomes the current revision. If you changed the status of the file, this will show in the Content Library and Resource Drawer. If you left a comment in the commit dialog, the comment will show in the History tab.
