Create a Multilingual Map
Creating a multilingual map enables you to publish a multilingual deliverable.
- Localize your content.
- Create a map that you will use as a multilingual map. See Create a Map.
- Click Open Library to access files in your Content Library.
Figure 1. Open Library Button - For each language that you want to include in the deliverable, add the localized map or topic to the multilingual map by dragging and dropping the map or topic into the map tree.The multilingual map has two or more instances of the map that has been localized.
- For each map instance in the multilingual map, open Edit element properties
and set the lang attribute to the languages you want included in the multilingual map.
Tip: You do not need to applylang="en-us"because that is the default and should be on the parent/container map. There is no consequence if you do otherwise.Figure 2. Lang attribute set to Spanish Note: The order in which you set the lang attribute in a multilingual map defines the order in which languages are displayed in your output.
For DITA-OT publishing, there's a set of default language strings in the toolkit (for text like Table of Contents, Index, or Chapter) that get called automatically at publish time.
For PDF Generator publishing, the scenario may need the language strings defined/added to the configuration, so that the publishing scenario can use them. Refer to Implement Localization Strings into a Scenario for additional information.
