Heretto CCMS Content Editor is the first and only collaborative system for DITA content that enables multiple users to work on the same content simultaneously. For example, a writer can work on authoring a topic while a reviewer suggests changes. Heretto CCMS Content Editor is cloud-based and built to make creating the DITA content as efficient as possible. Out of the box, the Content Editor delivers a straightforward authoring experience. The Content Editor editor is fully collaborative so files aren't locked when multiple users are working on content. Collaboratively locked files cannot be opened in an external authoring system like Oxygen to prevent any conflicting changes.

Heretto CCMS removes the need for file locking because it is a collaborative editor. More than one person can work in a file simultaneously, and all updates and changes are saved. It is not possible to automatically restrict file access to a single user when the file is open for editing, however, users can right-click a file and select Lock to disable collaborative editing while they are working in the file.

The only situation in which a file is automatically locked is when, if you use the Oxygen XML editor, you or someone else has the file open in Oxygen. Heretto CCMS locks files in this situation to prevent conflicts when you save and close the file from Oxygen.

When a file is locked by a different author, you can't unlock it. However, administrators can always use the Force Lock or Force Unlock options in the context menu of the Content Library, if necessary.
